It wasn't Shepard's fault. She was defending you, and I got in her face about it. Amongst other things.
[Everything is so awkward. WHY IS EVERYTHING SO AWKWARD]
Anyway, like I said before, I just wanted to apologize. There's no excuse for what I said and did. You deserve a slap on the head for getting caught in the first place, but everything else I said wasn't true. None of what happened during the mission was your fault.
You'll have to hit me somewhere else. Doc thinks I've already taken one too many head shots.
[because you are awkward turtle. Fox, on the other hand, isn't feeling awkward at all. In fact, he's reaching for that drink that Garrus so generously purchased for him. He actually drains it pretty quickly.]
I understand why you were angry. Anybody would be. It is true that none of that would have happened if I hadn't been thrown in the pound of all places, but whatever the hell they were up to was way off the charts. I guess they just got tired of trying to interrogate me.
[Fox paused, wiggling his now empty glass at Garrus]
[And Fox will flag down the bartender to do just that. It's on the Dinosaur's tab 8U]
Mostly, yeah. I didn't get knocked around in the pound too much, just crammed in a little cage. Tell you what though, the purists? They're really interested in you. Not that they know anything about you, I made sure of that.
Y'know, I think they decided to move me after I bit a guy's finger off.
[Fox grimaced and got to work on his second glass. Biting fingers off is gross okay.]
[had Fox not been drinking root beer schnapps like water he probably would have just shrugged it off, but seeing as he was already through like two glasses and already had like zero alcohol tolerance, he finds this to be the funniest shit ever.
Which means he just chuckles a little bit to himself and orders another drink. 8|]
Impressed? I thought it was pretty gross. But hey, it got 'em off my back for a while.
[When Fox says that next bit, Garrus goes quiet for a second]
...Honestly? While I wasn't at the time, looking back on it now, I'm glad you did. It means you won't take crap from anybody, no matter who they are, and that's a damn good thing.
Heheh. I can't argue with that. To be honest though, it tended to get me into trouble when I was a kid, especially in the military academy. I guess that's what happens when you're raised by a merc.
It was just three guys, dad and a couple old friends of his from back when he was still enlisted. Dad waited 'til I went off to the academy to invest in a flagship for the team, but before that they just operated from Corneria.
Actually, he never got a chance to use the flagship.
[OH IS HE. well fox is just going to trail off here and sip at that drink again]
He took out an 80 year loan on it, had it custom built. It's a great ship.
[it's ok Garrus Fox prefers blunt to beating around the bush like a pansy. Which is kind of what he started doing there himself with the whole ship thing. He scratches the back of his head for a second before continuing.]
Anyway, his team took a job from the military before the flagship was finished. I guess they must have borrowed a military transport or something since they had to go clear across the Lylat system to do the job.
He had friends in high places, but he also had a really good rep. There weren't too many trustworthy mercenaries back in the Lylat system. The mission was a pretty big deal, some mad scientist that the head of the army had banished to Venom was up to something, they didn't know what. Dad's team was sent out there to investigate. I guess the military was short on resources at the time or something. Never have been a huge fan of them.
Anyway, once they got there, one of dad's own teammates betrayed them. It really... came out of nowhere, nobody was expecting it.
They weren't able to complete it. Dad was killed by another mercenary, Peppy barely made it home alive. Pigma, he ended up joining the guy that killed Dad.
[Fox was quiet for a moment, giving the contents of his glass a swirl before finishing it off.]
There aren't many people I would kill on sight, but Pigma. He's at the top of the list.
